The Poet's Inspiration
The Poet's Inspiration
The poet's inspiration may come
as random as a rolling die,
as capricious as a vixen's heart,
as fleeting as a lover's sigh.
Or perhaps it is a gift
from the poet's ethereal muse
and the poet invokes Erato
to paint his verse with rhyme's hues.
Either way, a poem's womb
is the well of the poet's heart,
a reservoir of liquid thought
that is the fount of the poet's art.
The poet takes up his pen and dips
the nib into his heart's well
and then unto parchment sets down
verse that his muse doth compel.
