The Poem I Cannot Write
You are the poem I cannot write
You hide, elusive, from my sight
A vague mirage beyond the bend
A fleeting quiver of my pen –
I seek you out in realms of rhyme
I long to find you in my lines
I search in vain the endless blue
For but a glimmer peering through
And though I search, and search the more
The further am I than before –
This wondrous vision I can see
This work of art, what you could be
A lustrous write of muses gleaned
With worlds unfurling in a dream
And vibrant tropes of poetry
That move the soul, exquisitely –
Oh! how I yearn to pen your verse
To breathe into your lungs at birth
To be the wings that give you flight
To bring you, lovingly, to life
And by your breathing, be the spark
That stills this ache within my heart –
