The Physical World Around Me

Suddenly dropped down into a world,
strange and diverse, I opened my eyes,
to watch with wonder, the mysterious panorama,
stretching around me like an unfurling scroll of vellum.

I saw the earth beneath me like a couch,
the canopy of the sky like an umbrella above my head.
The towering mountains touching the sky,
The roaring oceans with their never-ending fracas.

The sun ascending from the East,
like a glorious victor
Trees standing in guard as sentinels
bearing fruits and bending down under their weight.
Flowers blooming and perfuming the air
with their sweet fragrance.

Forests with trees standing shoulder to shoulder entwined
where leaves whisper and insects chant their hums,
Beasts roaming free- the lion, cheetah, giraffe and monkeys
with their unique contours and unequal magnificence
Deserts with sand dunes and lush green oases,
carving the warp and weft of a sandy stretch.
Flora and fauna, weaving the web of life.

I found myself surrounded by a flux of current
and life sweeping forward in infinite variety.

In this sprawling physical territory,
in this wondrous gift given as free,
what’s my designated role?
An onlooker or a responsible participant?

The earth is not my possession.
Like thousands, I am a sojourner here.
I will have to leave it for posterity.
So, I will safeguard it with no deep scar.
I will protect what my forefathers built or grew.
I will plant trees and leave the world greener.

I see the earth and its surroundings-
a beautifully scripted page in a timeless tome,
for those coming after me to read and enjoy.
My faint voice will forever hum
the glories of God who created,
this wondrous physical world with all its charm.

"So, I will safeguard it with no deep scar." -- I don't think Nature would ask more of us. We are here to experience, learn and prosper spiritually. Soulfully. "My faint voice will forever hum the glories of God who created, this wondrous physical world with all its charm." -- Beautifully poem!
