The Perfect Painting

A near one motivated me to paint my canvas with hues newed So that I could paint a perfect painting never ever viewed I practiced hard and soon my brushstrokes had no rival Grateful that I learnt well and wanted the art to see survival I realized that the younger ones could not sustain my dream For they had their own to fulfill and swim their own stream They thought that in front of my success, their talent may be pale And who will then admire their own canvas and boost their morale I let them be themselves and burnt up my own perfect painting so that they could get a perfect one from their own attaining I was happy that they learnt to paint their canvas perfectly in the end For I discovered that perfectness is no absolute and had infinite trend Like the colors of the rainbow throw up new fusions at their seam And give colors for a new perfect painting for another generation to dream **** Form: sonnet (14 lines) Date: 3.6.2014 Name of Contest: The Perfect Painting by Elly Wouterse

Thank you Aberfoyle for visit- yes I think, everything has to begin anew in the nature, it is upto the new to imbibe the past or chart their own course. they have a choice. This is where freshness is sustained. your own perfect painting poem has very deep meaning. Mohan

How true, Mohan. We need to encourage young artists to find perfection in their own work. If they feel perfection has already been achieved, what is left for them to dream? Awesome sonnet! Congrats on your win. Carolyn
