The Pc Police

The PC* police are on the loose And now they’re banning Dr. Seuss! They say offensive writing’s there So readers all should be aware. But wait! We will not have a choice For censorship has raised its voice, Deciding that we never meet What’s waiting on a certain street.** Yes, times have changed; perhaps, today He’d write the words a different way With illustrations he’d intend To absolutely not offend. But books writ many years ago Reflect a life we used to know And so, to calm the PC wrath, We toss the baby with the bath. *Politically Correct **And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street (1937), one of the 6 books written by Dr. Seuss which will no longer be published.

I have English 17th-century illustrated volumes of Boccacio's works with the sexy bits in 13th-century French to "protect" readers but they had yet to figure out how to censor the illustrations which left nothing to the imagination. The Catholic Church had legions of monks dedicated to censoring everything- just ask the Irish! Censors always believe they know better than God what is best for mankind! Well said, Ilene! Aloha! Seems to me the cancel culture mob could do something more productive like taking care of the homeless, the hungry and other ills that really affect our brothers and sisters. Such nonsense - next they'll ban the Bible - Bob H

I am so sad, oh yes I am. I feel the world is strange indeed. This is perplexing as green ham. It also is the start of a dangerous seed! I am so glad you wrote this one. I am so sad the world is dumb.

Ilene, I think you are sooooo on target when it comes to censorship. I think, for example, children miss many lessons by not being able to hear or read Uncle Remus stories. And, I believe bigotry is the greatest sin! But, I cannot abide censorship at all!!!!

Ooh! You've nailed it, ilene: 'We toss the baby with the bath.' Pretty soon, the 'Ministry of Truth' will be the only publishing house left in the Western Hemisphere. And they will publish perfectly progressive pablum. Bleaahhh. Fahrenheit 451, anybody? :) gw
