The Only Ride That’s Free

Live to work or work to live?
C’mon, let’s get this over with
The money’s stashed in the couch near the TV
Let’s get going on the only ride that’s free

Don’t believe that old thing they say
That ya gotta play fair, that you have to pay
I’ve figured out a way to get it beat:
Use stealth and speed on the only ride that’s free

It’s a long day's journey into night
Past nine circles thru that hellish light
And if you make it out all right, come and see me
I got passes for the only ride that’s free

The vanity, fair; the lust, so pure
The greed that’s bolting out the door
Don’t be slow, and watch out for gluttony
Nobody feels wrath on the only ride that’s free

Nehemiah, he makes good time
Peeled all his tomatoes from the vine
And under a moon that shines, he’s a sight to see
You’ll shine too on the only ride that’s free

Time to rebuild Jerusalem
Time to get the Beatles back together again
Time to talk like it’s only you ‘n’ me
And time to go for the only ride that’s free

And all them haters, shouting us down
Decked out like Satan’s circus clowns
They’re fun to have around in small degrees
But they can’t come on the only ride that’s free

So gather up thy coin of flesh
Take a breath of the River so fresh
Past the thresh to the ferryman and the sea
Even he says it’s the only ride that’s free

And one day, we’ll have solved the puzzle
Filled our troughs and chewed thru our muzzles
We’ll all realize there’s no better place to be
Than forever in motion on the only ride that’s free
