The Old Rusty Gate

The Old Rusty Gate Bright sunbeams puddle on a summer road, Lazy bumblebees rise up with the heat, Leads to a rusty gate, mysteries bode, Barrier opens wide, invites come retreat. A garden gate where pale lilac plumes lounge, Secluded secrecy of hollyhocks, Where snarled blackberry vines freely abound With tangled climbing roses and white phlox. Abandoned garden grows in wild array Behind the gate that each day spawns more rust Untended briars – forlorn nights - sad days – Footpaths clog with the spells of ragged dusts. Season’s pass, erase footprint signatures ‘Til life blooms from rusty gate overtures. 6-23-22 Contest: One in Five Sponsor: Joseph May Title Chosen: The Old Rusty Gate

Hi Sam, An abandoned rusty garden gate which hides secret treasures of what was once a passionate hobby of someone that loved the beauty of plants, bushes flowers and trees - our son and his wife bought a deceased estate and the garden was just like that, but you must see it today, an absolute vision. This is a very different poem, very creative and woven together with a vivid imagination. Good luck in contest Sam! blessings, hugs, Jenn.

Hi Jenn! Thank you so much! I would love to see what your son and his wife have accomplished in their quest to renew the estate garden. Nature's resiliency always amazes me. A little water, a little pruning, some weeding, a little fertilizer all administered with love brings a bountiful harvest of new life. I was hoping to highlight those experiences in our own lives! Thank you for coming to sit with me in this life renewing garden! Love the company! Blessings and hugs dear friend.

The untended garden where snarled black berry vines and climbing wild roses abound with the secluded secrecy of hollyhocks tell of its one time glory, now lost. Anything unattended can go to ruins ! A very suggestive message your poem gives. All the Best in the contest, dear Sam!

Dear friend, thank you! Per usual, you see into the heart, and soul, of this poem! I believe all of us have a garden in our very being - an Eden so to speak - that must be tended and nurtured or it goes "to ruins," to seed, and it takes much work to revive it to its original glory! Fortunately God has given us, like nature, the power to recover so we can enjoy our walk with the Lord in the cool of the evening! Sending you blessing my friend!

Hi Michelle! It seems like we are all drawn to wild gardens at one time or another. It does indeed display a "wild beauty" that has an irresistible attraction like a tractor beam where we weed, prune and sow new seeds. I seem to have some abandoned gardens that I cannot resist returning to so I can do some restoration work! Thank you dear friend for your lovely compliments and best wishes! So appreciated. Sending you blessings!
