The Octogenarium
The Octogenarian
I am an octogenarian – did I spell it right?
If not, must be weak eye sight.
Means I'm getting old
Or at least that is what I'm told.
They say I'm long in tooth,
But that is only half the truth.
Have an artificial valve and pacemaker for my heart,
While hips and knees use a metal part
I can still walk without a cane
But joints creak and sometimes pain.
Trying to remember old friends names
Puts my great mind to shame.
Sports and games I use to play
Are just forgotten am sad to say.
Anyway, have had a long life
Couldn't have done it without my wife
We've been wed for sixty years
Fun and laughter and sometimes tears.
“For score and seven years” Lincoln said
Done that, now time for bed.
