The Ocean Ghosts
A buoy calling me to the green sea
I can't move her wild channel, like my ebbs
from within, my God, may this bracing cease
of cold months past thaw, spill breathing again
the seagull in the ice air blew away
I can't move her wild channel, like my ebbs
a seaweed frozen to wind in the spray
other footprints passing where there were mine
the seagull in the ice air blew away
an ocean that cannot melt my goodbye
on water my skin like fog beating through
other footprints passing where there were mine
where the rip current gets all things too soon
the memory of these fingers thrashing
on water; my skin like fog beating through
the dark thud against me still, still splashing
a buoy calling me to the green sea
with a thousand others never watching
from within, my God, may this bracing cease
