The Night Summons, the Heart Remembers, the Tears Fall

The Night Summons, The Heart Remembers, The Tears Fall

You were first love
so dearly missed
now shadow haunts
nights wail moaning cries
then nothing
cold aching silence
I cringe,
brain reality rebels
heart swells to eat
again
your touch
hold, crave,
anything
a kiss
a sweet gaze
warmth in winter's bed
coffee at dawn
hot, hot, hot,
your body
moon's radiant glows
love vows sworn
islands we dream
that promise
and hope
and much more
can you not see
there was earth
sky,
life,
forever love,
and you and me-
gone, gone, gone
emptiness reigns
you were first love,
now so dearly missed

Robert J. Lindley, nov 5. 2001
free verse

Note: 11/5/2001
And in the silent sky
darkness overcame light
earth, its movement stopped
fate and time won
silence its accursed black veil
dropped
and a lost soul asked why....

Note: 9-13-2020
Again darkness looms
its claws search
earth in silence
waits
to see
the results
of time and fate...

My dear friend, your emotional artistry never ceases to enthrall my imagination and break my heart. This gems shines with a sad beauty of wistful reverie and yearning for a lost love. Beautiful emotive and evocative poetry, Robert. Your heart is spilled upon the page. Warmest wishes always my inspiring friend.. ~Susan

Beautifully worded, but somewhat bittersweet. "islands we dream" love this. We ask so many times, sometimes we get answers; sometimes not. Well penned.

Thank you my friend. We ask and we hope. Life gives and sadly sometimes it also takes. We are better off if we appreciate its many gifts and not bemoan too much that which its takes.. God bless...

Such a poem of love, and the note written of Nov. 5 2001...so heartbreaking and now again...a note awaiting time and fate. You and your wife and son are in my thoughts and prayers, dear Robert. ~ Elaine

Thank you my friend. It is as it was- a look into youth, life , romance and fate's ever mysterious hands. As time and fate oft conspire to deliver epic loss/sadness/heartbreak and dreams crushed. Whereas one must consider such as "life lessons learned"--a part of growing up . God bless.
