The Night Sky

How often do they cross, these clouds? White light reflecting off such a lonesome moon But rarely do the clouds desire to make it look so wondrous For how often do the clouds truly make the scene As the moon sits alone in this black sea When each passing cloud simply tries to hide it away And when forgiving, simply guide around its bay Yet it is the rarest moment, when they cease this war Never may the moon watch in peace For clouds fear thoughts unwanted Desperately showing only what they wish it to see Never would the moon dare come so near For this distance is beyond belief With the hands of joyous children silently reaching out Wishing, merely to visit this land of dreams Should the black of the night sky drive unease into their hearts While the heavenly white clouds simply guide their sight away With day turned night, night turned day The moon seeks one fruitful sight To hide away in the light of the sun to peak out over us It is at this moment, do clouds come to share their rain Shall there ever lie any true mercy betwixt such sights I wonder As time pushes children to men and men to dust Forever refreshing these bright blue skies It is then, we wonder This game we play, is under whose watchful eyes? As each passing morning sheds old fears To bring us something new A refreshing drink for all of those present, save I For this unquenchable thirst may equal that of the moon Yet even while days turn to vibrant nights, For reasons we will never understand We no longer feel as we did once before For we used to stare upon the moon in awe Now our eyes wander away so easily Perhaps it is a memory of the war we lost To understand not why, but how Such wars are fought For time has no qualms with pushing onward No matter how much we may beg or plead Our moon will never have its victory, Should one morning, it succeed While these beautiful clouds will never allow us, To live our childlike dreams
