The Night of Our Life
The night before
The night we made a pact
The night the moon witnessed
The silence and the darkness at war
None the wind or dog blew or barked
None the leaves whispered, crickets gossiped
The night before
The night we promised
Our souls and shadows, same
The spirit of the earth, still, at its core
The mountains from afar, like sitting mummies
Waiting to give judgement when the morning came
The night before
The night we joined in blood
The night from whence we awoke
To always be alive and to exist for more
To rise above the flood and float in the mud
The end of a life behind the ghosts of words that choke
