Notes About The Poem

October is the Domestic Violence awareness month ~ so this poem is for those who are silenced ~ and have survived or are still enduring any form of abuse ~

This poem is not my story ~ it is for all the strong warriors...

The Narcissistic Nightshade

If grief is a ghostwriter,
why is my ink still bleeding,
why is poetry the elixir ~
against trust
           weaponized?

                    O hunter’s moon,
I am not the hunted huntress.
I am the rose armor adorned
with wine-magic wishes ~
a funeral leaf ~ still breathing,
no longer nailed
to the copper casket
of scarlet-scarred season,
refusing to remember
the thorn-hearted scent
within forlorn flowers,
ruthlessly ravaged,
for my withered essence
was never the weakness
draped in hostile dews
of his deceitful dusk,
nor am I the woman
that cowardly wore
the widowed cold needles
of a narcissistic nightshade.

He named it love ~ he promised forever.
I know now what it was:
fangs of fire,
control camouflaged
as commitment christened,
abuse termed as deep affection.

I tasted the malicious marks
of his deadly devotion,
fingerprints of wrath
pressed into the pulse of petals,
my skin scorching
with fixated fault lines
disguised as dedication,
contoured and concealed
with colors of misplaced loyalty…

I am not what his tongue cursed ~
the devil’s belladonna,
but the mistress of hushed violence,
silenced and stone-eyed,
turning trauma
into tulips of troubled twilight.

I forgive and dream
amidst the dusted dahlias,
designing destiny
through ashes and truth
of beautiful brutality ~
the torture that confused
the charisma of a self-loathing psyche,
while pansies pine with death,
screaming sweet-smelling cruelty,
like the healing hues of hibiscus
floating in the air,
      free from Lucifer’s sun
that burned the roots
of a garden bleeding garnet gravel ~
forsaking the sadistic pollens
that smothered my soul’s blooms.

I survived ~ I thrived ~
I live
to sow seeds
of lilies and light,
          and I w a n e ~
a divorcee of darkness,
an angel without crippled wings...

Dear Empress, so happy to see your pen wielded as a weapon against social issues like domestic violence. I have seen you talking about psychic disorders like Bi polar disorders with much empathy. It is true that many women are abused by their husbands. Many marriages fail because of the narcissistic tendencies of their partners. Some women are also not an exception. They are manipulators unable to sense that their partner is a human being like him or her. It is hell living with them. "I am the rose armor adorned with wine-magic wishes ~ a funeral leaf ~ still breathing, no longer nailed"- Happy are those liberated from the poisonous hold of a narcissistic partner. A relationship will thrive only if there is love and equality. To be frank, there is not much equality for a woman of my generation in our place as some vestiges of patriarchal culture still prevails. Even if women are working, kitchen is supposed to be exclusively their domain and cooking their sole responsibility. It is frustrating. The younger generation has considerably changed and it is so relieving to witness such a change. Dear Empress your pen has the sharpness of a sword. I must congratulate you. "I live to sow seeds of lilies and light," Dear one, live to sow the seeds of light. This goes into my FAVE

I understand that you are a multi linguist. knowing many languages. I am glad to see that you know Malayalam and Hindi and love wearing lndian saree and Churidhar. I do all the cooking in the house... Though l love cooking, when it becomes mandatory and a routine ritual, it gets into my nerves. I have a part time assistant who comes just twice a week to clean and mop. Thanks dear Empress for such a lovely response 🙏

Valare adhikam nandi, sweet Valsa ~ 💜 Haha, I used to speak Malayalam when I was little, and I still know a few words. I’ve also been speaking Hindi fluently lately. You are very right; I do write about many psychological illnesses and social issues ~ any form of abuse really gets to me. I agree that abuse has NO GENDER. As a mother of a son, I have seen this too, and nowadays, it’s even more common for men to be falsely accused of many things. It’s a very, very worrisome situation. I am very passionate about this, and men too go through violence, but they are often told not to express their emotions. How sad is that! I have been wanting to write about this as well. And as October 10th is World Mental Health Day, you might see me touching on many mental-health subjects through poetry, as I am a mental health advocate. I always appreciate your empathy and kindness! Honestly, you have been such a beautiful soul. 💜 Regarding women’s roles, in a patriarchal society, I think there is some

Thank you for your poem in support of domestic violence month. So many people are affected and it can linger with us into adulthood when experienced as children.

Ah, so kind of you to thank me dear Robert. And very true about childhood experiences and the impact they can leave, particularly when those experiences are not healthy ones.... I would say it is an accomplishment when one succeeds in breaking free from the chains of violence and abuse. It can also affect trust and self-esteem, and sometimes even distort our understanding of what love and commitment are supposed to feel. I believe there is strength in recognizing those patterns, reclaiming one’s sense of self, and refusing to allow the past to dictate the future. Healing, to me, is not forgetting what happened, but choosing what we carry forward. Easier said than done ~ didnt lose my marbles 😆

Ah my viking Unicorn warrioress ~ thank you for so boldly stating that you are a survivor. I choose usually friends based on what they have experienced in life personally. As I think those are the ones I can have deep conversations with. I am not one to like small talks. I find inspiration and empowerment through individuals who know the taste of real pain. And how it is to overcome all. You are one of them. One who has seen so much but still remains kind and sees good in others amidst all. I admire that about you. Keep being you and sharing your life with us all. And I am sorry you had to also learn the hard way that we need to survive sometimes for our childrens sake. Its the same with me ... I spend more time with my son when everything feels heavier. I just hold his hand and remind myself why I am alive. Sending you light always my beautiful sweet Boo! Kisses and hugsz 🦄 🧜‍♀️

No woman should endure male insanity, is not every mother a woman? your poetry has painted a bleak picture of harm, to be honored should be the hand shared in grace not violence...a powerful profound poem Ink, and yet filled with sadness...

Bravo IE for highlighting what is a taboo subject, many are in toxic relationships often suffering in silence with the abuser twisting it and playing the victim, a typical narcissist. Have a lovely weekend. Tom🌹

Thank you so much dear Tomsz. I wish many would write about this. Maybe my next contest would be on this subject as October is the month for domestic violence awareness. Its a terrifying place to be ~ in abusive environments. I still get flashbacks when I hear couples fight bad. Thank you so much once again Sending you light always 🧜‍♀️

My gosh you had lots of angst to get off your chest, didn’t you? Nightshade and Belladonna… feed the culprit(s) a bit of that and you’ll be free from those who tried and failed to smother the blooms of your soul. You might even earn Angel wings for ridding the world of such narcissistic demons ~ those dark Lucifers who rob us of sunlight! ♥️ Love and admire your lines and your feistiness!

Writing of sadness, that of others or our own is a method of cleaning wounds so they may heal. Infection cannot heal until the toxin has been drained. You and I open wounds to gain the peace we seek once it’s released. 💕

Awwn haha I guess we have something in common ~ feistiness 🥹 this composition ~ Linnersz is one of those that took me a while to write. Also because I am mentally in a very calm place ~ peaceful, but I had to rewind ~ reflect and release … I watched couple of domestic violence survivors stories before writing this, not because I havent been a witness but because I needed to see how others too felt. In such situations, its never easy to break free from trauma bonds. Especially when one has Stockholm syndrome. Thank you so much for reading and commenting without feeling overwhelmed. This one was a heavy write. It might not seem like it but took me two hours to write which I consider is very long 🥹 Now I am just a little sad ~ But still in a good place Sending you light always 💋
