The Miller Girls: Now Presenting

Inside our parents’ bedroom by the door, our sister Jenny played the old piano. From all of us a melody would soar in varying degrees of voice soprano. A high soprano Jennifer would sing as pretty Melanie would sing along. The house with lovely harmony would ring when I and Dori “seconded” the song. For church we’d often render “Silent Night.” Our tiny congregation made such fuss as if we were four angels in their sight, and Mom would fairly swoon with pride for us. Of whims that took no flight I am lamenting; Mom’s dream, “The Miller Girls . . . now presenting!” For Sonnet on an Intimate Relationship Poetry Contest: My best intimate relationship began at home. My four lovely sisters, three of whom are mentioned here, will always be the greatest of my friends.

My family would gather around my late father's piano and sing. He was a composer who set 8 of my poems to music. Nice poem here! Check out the D.H. Lawrence poem "Piano" on the web. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

I thought this one was gonna be about the Miller Girls who stand at the Beer Tub in bikinis at Night Clubs! ...HA! Actually, I did NOT think that, but I am nearly almostly toootally nutS! THis reminds me of my Aunt Jennie who used to play church piano. She would practice at my grandmas, and I would sing like a barking Baboon! Any poem that brings up old funny memories is ALL RYGHT BYE Me! Sorry you have read all my poems on here. YOU are the only one. Hey I just wrote a new one that is TRICKY!

Dear Andrea, How wonderful it is that you and your sisters sang together. Surely, it made your mother proud. Singing in harmony is a joyful experience that produces great vocal achievements. Congratulations on your win! This goes to my faves. I have just one sister, but it is a relationship I treasure. (My voice is definitely too deep to sing with Jennifer. Nuns made me sing with the boys - embarrassing. Love, Carolyn

Yep, I knew this was a winner...I was once in a gospel choir and sang baritone; the most challenging and difficult harmony of the four and my guess is you sang alto...Correct?

The only other family member was my brother Don who had by far the best voice, thus he sang melody of course...My sister also was also a VERY good singer but this was an 'all male' choir...And my oldest brother? Well, he couldn't carry a tune in a dump truck...

Sad that the old family musicals are rare. Nowadays they want to play CD games. Aint that a damn shame. Super nostalgia, Andrea. Love, daver
