Notes About The Poem

'The Lonely Weed' Contest hosted by Craig Cornish ~ March 2026

Placed 1st

The Lonely Weed

In a bleak and desolate
Barren landscape
She quietly thrives
In isolation, embracing
The benefits of solitude
Resilient in challenging
Moments of adversity,
Her mind freely wanders
Unfettered by pressures
And unwelcome demands
Pleasantly surprised
By lullabies of showers
And twittering birds…
But when twilight fades into
The hushed silence of night
Doubts reveal insecurities
As loneliness creeps in
Stealthily … shrouded
In shadows of vulnerability.

your language--a potent mix of strength and vunerabily-- aptly expresses a weed's dual nature...i'm honored to share this top spot with you, paul...sweet congrats!

I don't blame you for feeling sorry for this weed, Deb! After all many of us could be compared to one or more 'weeds'. Thank you for your pleasant visit. Best regards // paul

The weed though lonely and insecure has her moments of joy when she hears the rain's lullaby or the twittering of birds. Well done dear friend.
