The Lone Sentinel

The Lone Sentinel


                                  As I walk the beach
                                        a seagull
                                    a lone sentinel,
                                 announces my coming.
                                 His shrill cry beckoning,
                                   his comrades to fly.

                                      When I pass,
                                    they will return
                              as though I'd never passed
                                    that way before.

                              Covering my tracks with their
                                    thousand little feet.
                               And again that lone sentinel,
                                   Posted to guard against
                                         intruders.

Daver Austin February 8, 2012 at 8:37 AM I can hear those shrill cries. Gulls are my favorite birds - great flyers, great swimmers, fishers. They can do it all. Boat owners hate, though, because they crap all over boats. As I do not own a boat, I say - "So what?" Congrats on the selection. daver
