The Litchfield Hills

The winsome birches sway, their chalk white, black-stitched trunks frolick in the Fall gale, punctuating the hillsides greenery with lingering leaves lemon yellow. The pointillist tapestry of pale ash, purpled sycamore and tangerine maples, posed. The Nor’easter’s downpour licks the rock face. Granite cliffs glistened in the noon sun. Waterfalls tumbled pell-mell over once dry precipices, in gushing tinseled torrents of delight, as gullies over-flowed into the route of ages.

Debbie, a wonderful fallscape! Your resplendant adjectives so artfully embellish the natural scenery. This is the best poem in the contest. I am post-nominating you for first place! Enjoyed your well-crafted verse.

Probably one of my favorites so far because of the clever way you play with words, for example, having the black-stitched trunks of the birches "punctuating" the hillsides. or the downpour licking a rock face. That's the kind of stuff in poetry that makes me swoon. Congrats on your win.
