The Light

Late that night just inside my front door in the blackness of the dark
I hear heavy breathing in the room next door and feel terror in my heart
I hesitate while worrying what is it that I will see
Will I see a stranger in my home or someone known to me
I reach for it-the light switch, the bulbs flicker a bit and then burst
I hear them shatter across the room and then I hear him curse
I fumble through the doorway in the dark to a table lamp that is near
Take a deep breath and shed some light and I see him sitting there
Propped up on the couch, glass pieces in his chest
Blood trickling down his body, it hit him where he rests
Gasping for air he glares at me dying in my sight
I give a little wink to him as I turn out the light.
I wouldn’t have to kill him in my dream called the light
If he would just come clean and do what he knows is right.

(The truth and the light will set you free)

bone chilling but very well written. I like it. It is always more difficult to write the dark. Poe did it successfully. You did great, thank you.
