The Lie

It was the heartbreaking lie that had her weeping, For all those years she trusted ev’rything for keeping; She believed nature condoned her from death to life, And kept her from hurt and destined her to be his wife. And so, betwixt the promises shared, which had now blown Before his deceitful lips fooled and kissed that of her own, Who could love her so dearly and remain smitten with her, When she who sought only for love never did with care? She thought she’d found true love, she felt safe and glad, Little did she know that the handsome man she had Was nought grateful to her, and never wished her well; Distraught and lamentable – so she, with tedium dwell, The secrets revealed daunting her soul, as if beaten, That lie, as dark as afterlife, so aches as she weakens.
