The Killick and the Resolute Youth

Don’t anchor me here too close to shore.
I need to explore; though I’m still young,
life is a vast, boundless ocean in front of me -
perhaps precarious -
but filled with so much of the unknown
it beckons me with its fathomless allure.
Oh, how I long to plumb its depths,
for I was born for adventure.
I know you do not like to acknowledge this,
but riding life’s currents is the only school I desire.

Right now I am inexperienced;
the years in front of me are many.
Thank you for the wisdom to tie me here a while longer
with only a stone that does not a proper anchor make,
for I will grow in knowledge and in strength.
Then my determination will dislodge this killick,
and you shall watch me sail away one day.
Don’t fret, dear ones; you have raised me well.
I’ll be ready for the voyage of my life.

Andrea, this is amazing and down-right exceptional poetry. I gave up on this one, but you nailed it, and I think Craig will love it too! BOL in the contest.

It was very hard to know what to write. Not so sure I will win. It would be nice. Maybe you can still think of something!

I just read Joe's comments, so sweet. And, he's right, you know. Your poetic thoughts are so deep and so beautiful--so much we can learn from them.

thank, Ann. I don't know what prompted him to say "please don't go yet" because I am not going anywhere! Gosh, I wonder why he said that! But I appreciate your comment here and the other things joe said.

My sentiments also; life is for living. Blessings my friend -- oh, please don't go yet, poetry is trial and error. You would be greatly missed. Lord knows I've felt on trial after some of my writes, convicted for my lack of effort. Your works are often samples of perfection to be admired and studied. As is this one. Sage write. Thank you for being here.
