The Happenstance
By happenstance, we lock our eyes
as I see her on the winding stair...
soft whispers float around the room.
Well-known and beautiful, at that moment,
her dark brown eyes are fixed on me.
The smell of roses is wafting through the air,
and I take one, breathing in its scent...
feeling flutters never known before.
My normal world appears so dark and dank
compared to this space where I am now.
This powerful attraction...is it truth or folly?
Perchance it is a dream...but as I daub
my cheek with dewy petals of the rose,
I know for sure a dream it's not...for now
she stands before me, our eyes still locked...
her hands accept my offered rose...
and I feel cupid's arrow bind our hearts.
