The Handkerchief

The Handkerchief

I found your handkerchief today,
still folded in a square.
Inside a drawer put away,
as if you'd left it there.

I wrapped my hands around it tight,
then pressed it to my chest,
as tears began to cloud all sight,
my heart filled with unrest.

I searched to find you in the folds
though nowhere was your smell,
just mem'ries now, my heart still holds,
of love time cannot quell.

I found your handkerchief today,
reluctantly it's put away.

Wow, that sonnet flows! I love writing sonnets, but on Soup I've only written two Shakespearean sonnets for a contest. Being bound to a certain format is lovely and hard and so fulfilling when it works. I love your two concluding lines.
