Take the pine cone for instance - nature's example of the Fibonacci sequence. Mathematicians explore its spiralled symmetry. Seriously, I love the phrase 'spiral symmetry' and your concluding line about marveling at creation's divine proportions. "Lovely to hear from you, John. My son definitely didn't get the scientific gene from me but, yes, he loves his physics research and gives me the occasional elementary lessons! This was prompted by Brian's blog on the Fibonacci sequence which set me off doing a little research of my own!"

This is incredible Wendy, I learned of the Fibonacci sequence a while ago, and it is astounding how many things follow that numeric sequence, from flowers to the universe, how can anyone deny an intelligent designer. Interestingly many scientists especially mathematicians are choosing to believe in God, they just go where the math takes them. Great write!

What a great comment to receive on this grey autumnal afternoon in Blighty! I was aware of the wonderful examples of symmetry and patterns in nature of course but only enlightened recently with regard to the Fibonacci sequence. My son is a keen physicist! The geometry behind the Great Egyptian Pyramid is also quite intriguing apparently. What an amazing world we live in! Thanks so much for reading and commenting,John.
