The Gent Who Waited At the Gate
I asked him why at my house he had stopped.
He answered me, "I have some time to wait,
and here I'll stay until the sun has dropped!"
All day in summer's sun, nearby the gate,
he patiently awaited my dear sister,
and now I shall reveal to you his fate.
Evening came, and then to meet that mister
came she who'd kept the poor gent waiting long.
I saw through parted blinds her caller kissed her. . .
Endurance served him well. I'd reckoned wrong!
