THE GANGSTER, Spoken by the popular SILENT ONE

Appreciation: A big thank you Silent One for your splendid narration of this poem.
THE GANGSTER
Through foreboding, whispering, wintery air A woken Heron shrilly shrieks somewhere Reflective iridescent gem in a gloomy stream The gangster with a poetic heart dares to dream
A living testimony to deviates and lost souls. Where seedy worth defines unsavoury roles. Perceiving her as a quintessence work of art Fantasising a new start could transform his path But his formidable foe of unbeatable might Silently rejects him from her soulless sight Scheming secrets spill, in the ruthless thrill, While Angels weep for innocents who sleep Nearer to his mark, prey to her game Shame, oh shame! Like a moth to the flame. Though only murder glows in her beauteous glance The man gambles chance at a shot at romance The bar reeks of treachery and strife Trust is sporadic in a gangster’s life Romantic interchange in hidden codes Not charmed by romance, a single shot explodes In this world of corrupt nights, where the energy dips Between Jack Daniels sips, those sensuous red lips The Reaper is the dealer; Destiny seals Every gangster bends to the very last deal
An Art film Art films often "bear the marks of a distinctive visual style" and the authorial approach of the director. An art cinema film often refuses to provide a "readily answered conclusion", instead putting to the cinema viewer the task of thinking about "how is the story being told? Maria Williams©2024

Dearest Maria, gifted poetess, everything about this poetic production is outstanding! I adore your awesome poem, Silent One's tone in the reading and Ron's art film. So very intriguing and a perfect vehicle to showcase your amazing poetic talent. The vocals of Cant Help Falling In Love With You smoothly transitions into SO's voice and the visual tempo of the film is captivating in keeping time with the reading and music. An exquisite production. Bravo to you all! Warmest wishes my sweet soulful friend.. ~Susan

What a delightful surprise my dear SS Susan. How wonderful to see you again. So glad you loved the production. Ron was tickled pink when I told him that you noticed the smooth transition between the singer and Silent One's voice. He's very fussy with his music and videography, so thanks for that. I guess every bit counts. Hope everything is going well dear with you? Still busy at work?...Lots of love and hugs

A lovely collaboration, Maria. Nice to hear Silent One read poetry to us. The art film was very entertaining and left us to wonder of the intricacies of outcomes of the characters. Nice entertainment for this evening. Thank you both. Your poet friend in Texas, Bill

Turning this expressive poem into a video was a very good idea, especially since the author herself must have had a say in it. Both opening and closing songs are truly suited; Pleased that finally Silent One has broken his silence :) // paul

Brilliantly depicted, my friend. Wonderfully exploring the heart and mind of a gangster. I felt the intensity of your write throughout, Maria: Nearer to his mark, prey to her game Shame, oh shame! Like a moth to the flame---In this world of corrupt nights, where the energy dips Between Jack Daniels sips, those sensuous red lips--and splendid images you brought to fore through your talented pen!

You wrote great dialogue for me to read for you.. it was an pleasure to do so, although my voice is not worthy of such things, nor do I feel it was the right one for this poem, however, I know you were being kind to include me.. guess I am a bit of gangster lol.. Thank you.. Well done Ron for the brilliant video he created and interesting choice of cover for this song.... all the best. a fave of course..

Thanks, S1; your voice was perfect for this narration. Thanks so much for doing it; I truly appreciate the trouble you went to. My original choice of music for the video was a different version of Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, but Ron, being the perfectionist that he is, thought the pitch of the voice didn't match yours. So we decided on a cover song of Cant Help Falling in love with You. That worked in well. Thanks so much for the Fave...Maria hugs

I love the video and spoken word done by silent one. Looks like he enjoyed reading this one. And i also love the way this has been written. So well articulated and poetic storytelling at its finest dear sweet maria. Im so happy to see you posting again. I must highlight the alliterations and also the rhymes. Even a gangster if with a poetic heart, they dare to dream and what is life without dreams.love the way youv described destiny, this person and how it ends!soul hitting, powerful Fave it is

Thanks so much, my dear Inky, for the visit and lovely support; I truly appreciate it. A life without dreams, yes, would be a pretty boring life indeed. At least my gangster dared to dream, before word spread that he was trying to make an exit. At least thats the way I imagined it...Love and hugs, and thanks so much for the Fave ...Maria

Well well-written combination between an on-looker and a gangster. A love poem but in dire circumstances since rivals shoot at each other in hate. Loved SI's voice. Best find a good shelter and live a good life. Hugs to my dear Maria. PS comments usually start pouring in late afternoon. Be patient.

Thanks for reading and visiting, dear Victor. I genuinely appreciate you, my friend. Yeah, these gangsters, there's always that element of rivalry and greed over romance. At least our main character was trying to get out of the game I feel. Hugs

Hey nice Collab you two. Great noir poetry and narration. And the jazz song at the finale was perfect. Yeah, doesn't pay to love or be loved by a gangster. Fosho!

I enjoyed this one. Not the crime element but the music and jazz scene. I grew up with this type of music, bluesy jazz; apart from being a classical musician, my dad also loved jazz. Duke Ellington, Count Basie, the jazz pianist, all the old-time greats. Thanks for the visit dear Tommy, always a pleasure seeing you....Hugs
