The Futility of Love

I watch your back till it disappears from sight

I know every inch of your skin

Every expression your eyes can make

I hear your angry whisper in my ear

Your playful laughter ripples over my skin

Tomorrow it will be only a memory

Today I am being ripped in two

Every tear has your name

As they slowly drip down my face

I wearily wipe them away

Wishing I could as easily

Wipe the memory of you from my consciousness

Why could you not love me

More than you loved yourself

Why could you not hold onto me

Why would you not let me hold onto you

Heather, I can relate to the feelings of "futility" when it comes to beginning new relationships. If I hadn't been married to a wonderful man, I would probably believe there was no one meant for me. If you are feeling this way, I hope writing this powerful, emotional poem helped ease the pain. Best wishes, carolyn

Thank you. Unbelievably I've been with the man for 11 yrs and its taken some time but we have been through hell and back together and stronger then ever and he's turned into the strong dependable man I always knew he could be.

Wow, your words speak in emotions that I know intimately. This was incredible Heather. You have taken the thoughts right out of my mind and placed them so wonderfully on this page. I loved this.
