The First - and Last - Date

It's true it happened rather long ago, but still I grin and break out in a laugh: a friend arranged a date for me with Jo - he later said, 'I guess I made a gaffe.' Let's say it wasn't instant love on sight; she coldly eyed me, said, 'You must be Jack?' I nodded, said, 'And you are Jo-Jo, right?' She shrugged and fastened up her flasher mac. Her arms were folded tight across her chest, attempts at conversation failed, and so I drank my pint of beer in silence, stressed, and eyed the clock. I couldn't wait to go. And then her eyes were sparkling, gaze intense; but not for me (the barmaid, breasts immense...) Sort of based on a real life blind date, LOL for Brenda's First Date contest, 20th January 2018

Yours is better than mine. I finally got 'er done and actually did it on a true date I'd had!! Sonnet form was not quite long enough for all I wanted to say, but because of the way I'd carried through with enjambment to the lines that were not in the same quatrain groups, I could not see a way to do it as a bunch of quatrains. (which I should have done in the first place). Thanks for seeing my poems today, Jack. Joe is flying to Kentucky early this morning. OH my. What will happen with his mom?

VERY NICE one, Jack. Someone just told me I was good at bringing sonnets down to earth. WEll, so the heck are YOU, my friend. This is GREAT story telling in sonnet form. Love it.

Very good, Jack, and I enjoyed the twist at the end! Incidentally I wrote a Limerick on similar lines about a month ago, though I still have to post it (it's about a king from Baghdad!). Regards // paul
