It was bitterly cold outside; winter had finally arrived
Scintillating snowflakes were falling
smothering the land with a white lacy shawl
My mother is old and frail; it was far too treacherous for her to go out
so I’d promised to get some essential provisions
I trudged along wearily, the slippery snow made walking so difficult
it was such a relief to see the porch light twinkling in the distance
When I reached our little cottage I could see her anxious face at the window
Mum greeted me with a beaming smile and a warm embrace
She helped me brush the snowflakes from my thick coat
Then we sat down together by the roaring log fire inside our cosy lounge
Oh it felt so good to be home!
