It was bitterly cold outside; winter had finally arrived Scintillating snowflakes were falling smothering the land with a white lacy shawl My mother is old and frail; it was far too treacherous for her to go out so I’d promised to get some essential provisions I trudged along wearily, the slippery snow made walking so difficult it was such a relief to see the porch light twinkling in the distance When I reached our little cottage I could see her anxious face at the window Mum greeted me with a beaming smile and a warm embrace She helped me brush the snowflakes from my thick coat Then we sat down together by the roaring log fire inside our cosy lounge Oh it felt so good to be home! Thanks so much James I am not a fan of snow as our little Island was so badly hit in 2013 when about 10% of livestock perished and the Island ground to a halt as many of the roads were treacherous, my hubby slept at work for 2 days as he had the company 4 x 4 and was ferrying staff up the steep hill so the broadcasting could still go on :-) hugs jan xx

I really enjoyed this take on the contest, the warm fire inside the cottage is so inviting when it is very cold out! I loved the way you wrote this delightful poem, filled with a warmth of its own, a peaceful feeling emanates from your piece so eloquently! It tell the tale of how life can be rough and cold, but there is always something awaiting you with joyous warmth and delight! Great Work my friend!!

Thanks Russell. I wanted to do something a little different on the theme:-) I used to shop most days when my parents had their house here and just get bits and bobs of shopping for mum now she is in care, but when the weather is bad I do pop by my next door but one neighbour as she walks with a 3 wheeled walker and I drop by the check on her and get things if she wants but she is pretty independent otherwise:-) hugs jan xx
