The End of the Road

We parked at the end of the road
Like so many times before
The moon was a sight to behold
In the eyes of the one I adore

It was there, where we first kissed
Two kids discovering love
The moon twisting my wrist
Gave my cowardly heart a shove

Some nights, we'd just sit and talk
What we wanted life to be
Occasionally, get out and walk
Take a blanket, neath the cottonwood trees

Spring breaks, at home from school
Even after we'd tied the knot
Since that very first time, I'm a fool
For the moon in your eyes, in our spot

Tonight we're here once again
Our past, worth more than gold
From that first time here, just friends
Parking at the end of the road

I agree w/Paul. Give an old romantic like me a warm feeling in my heart going down memory lane, even though there's no parking there at the end of this road. Lovely poem, Daniel. Keep on loving each other, that's whats so beautiful about this endearing poem. Love and best wishes this Happy New Year.

My mum and dad seperated after thirty years together Daniel. Like your beautiful last verse, they had become friends again. She was with him to whisper a prayer in his ear as he lay dying from a ruptured aortic aneursym at home.

So few of us know the experience of a loving friendship to the end. This expresses that joy so simply and completely My hubby and I celebrated 45 years together this December. Adding it to my FAVS list. With gratitude SuZ

You spoke the heart's language...so sure it goes directly to the heart..OMG what the world would be without such poetic discourse! :D

Sadness slowly and steadily drips from each stanza, the emotion is lonely with longing that touched me! This is a feeler, Daniel - I expect all the entries for this contest may tug my heart! All the best ... CayCay

Hello Daniel, I certainly agree with John that this is a superb poem. You pull the reader very quickly into the life journey until you the parking at "the end of the road." The ultimate durability of a true friendship is so very important. Enjoyed it!! Best New Year's Wishes . . . Gary
