Intriguing! There's a British play set in the 1800's with a very similar theme, except for the mass consumerism: i.e., the miners are out on strike and they're just deceiving themselves (because they're up against one very stubborn man who owns everything). Maybe you can think of it. I believe the author's name was Galsworthy or some such name. Excellent play. Characterization and situation very real. ~ Gershon
