The Distant Things
I rarely dwell on places far away.
When young I went abroad - my one last chance
before youth ended, and I dreamed by day,
as well as in the night time, of romance!
How could I know back then that life would bring
me here, and that so much would pass me by
which "once upon a time" meant everything
to that fresh dreamy woman that was I!
I have new things to occupy my mind -
my work and grand kids and my poetry.
I love them all; however, I’m not blind
to things less nice that old age holds for me.
It makes such sense that after all of this,
the distant things are what I sorely miss.
