The Devil In Disguise
The flood waters have receded
The volcanoes have cooled down
Most of the monsters have been slayed
People flourish, in modern cities and small towns
We’ve risen from complete chaos to somewhat order
Many great men have fought and died
Women have raised our children
Therefore, modernity thrives
Yet there's a storm brewing
A panoply of distress deep inside
Our ancient drives are still thriving
Regardless of the simplicity of our lives
Ironically, the good life has become quite unbearable
The ease of living is killing our soul
We desperately look for help toward the Heavens
Completely unaware of the tragic neurological toll
We've traded objective facts for subjective opinions
We chosen feelings over truths
We’re fat and broken
Still crippled by the sins of our youth
We’re traumatized by the thought of dying
Yet we've wasted so many precious years
We’re preoccupied
A neurotic species incapacitated with irrational fear
With a childlike innocence
We proudly ignored all the signs
We’ve distracted ourselves with pleasures
Indulging on exquisite foods and fine wines
The irony of evolution
Self-righteousness has led to our demise
Our attempt to conquer all of life's suffering
Has turned out to be the true devil in disguise
