Notes About The Poem

My husband and I refer to the cops of our small city as Barney Fifes. I think it's a common thing for people from my generation to do! I enjoyed all the Mayberry episodes since I was a little kid until the went off the air, maybe around the early 70's.

The Deputy Dope

Sheriff Andy’s had his share of strife
with his deputy dope, Barney Fife.
That first time that Barney
showed up full of blarney,
Andy ought to have run for his life!
