The Day Is Lost

My wallet gone! The day is lost - I plan A hundred calls. His message comes, I'm floored. We meet, he brings it - taking no reward. "Just pay it forward", says the kind, young man. (...a true story. I asked him why he would not want a reward for returning my wallet and the young US Navy sailor said "just pay it forward. That's my reward")

Thanks Andrea! I don't know if you remember this, but you're the one I learned the word 'enjambment' from!

Charlie, thank you for creating such a wonderful contest at a time in world history when kindness is paramount. Appreciate you stoking the fire and inspiring all those great writes, which I'm looking forward to reading through in days to come. Good job on the judging, also; I really enjoyed reading those two #1 placements. Cheers, my friend (and happy fishing!) ~ John

Years ago, I left my purse with £400 rent money in it, and it was returned, I never forget it, so, the lady who returned it continues to this day to receive blessings from me, far greater than any kind of on the spot forgot reward, it is also my motto when doing anyone a favour, pass the reward on, lovely poem John, credits for sharing . . . : )

Indy, thank you for sharing this wonderful story. A vivid reminder that not everyone out there is "looking out for #1". And I appreciate how intentional you are in acknowledging the kindness. Hugs/John

Beata, always appreciate your kind words. He was a Christian, only wanting to glorify God with his honesty and integrity, and asked me to show the same kindness to another stranger. It was so touching, I had to write about it.
