"The Day(s) I Saw That Fate Exists" 6/17/19 "What Makes You Flinch" poetry contest Sponsored By: Julie Leigh Rodeheaver Today began as most of many days do Today I woke, a tad bit hungover Opened my eyes, rubbed my head Said F+-k feeling like S-+t as I stretched out my shoulders Hollered out a great "O" than stared off blankly into space As I shook off my dreamstate & surveyed my surroundings Firmly grounded hovering suspended In between Astral & Reallity I Took in a deep half a§§ blessed somewhat agitated breath Then Let out a meek frustrated f÷×k= the dumb s()t sigh Rocked myself the rest of the way 3/4's awake Then strolled into a roll into a crawl out of bed Back into the fold Back into the mold Fighting faith Fighting fate Riding waves Riding ways Making means Making mean Just trying whole he(a)r(d)tedly Too make my way too the sink Brush my teeth shake off & forget Start anew start a new today & dismiss The past & its shadows chasing after & ahead of me Everlasting foreshadowing every instance & moment Before & After encapsuling Tackleing me no matter what move I make See there was a day There is a day for each and every one of us Where we live unknowing & free From this b/\*h of a truths embrace In our youth fate is new and untangled with In our youth fate is viewed as some great grand gameplan Follow the rules follow gawds path mind your ps & qs Follows these truths & all things great grand & good Shall be laid out before you Shall be yours thru hard work and dedication This tho is not necessarily so Believing this plays you right into fates hands The day I saw fate Made me devastatingly cringe In a flash in an instance Time slowed down stopped and came to a halt I was in complete & total control of everything Except for the outcomes & repercussions Cause & Effect My (in)actions would have on the world that surrounds me With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility It was in this moment I FLINCHED The world stopped all of everything slowed Stalled & came to a screeching halt Fate revealed himself & I saw in totality All outcome & possibility MINUS 1 From there on I've lived in Fates Wake Always on the lookout Like a Lion or Gazelle Like Plankton or a Whale Kill or be killed be killed or kill Live or die die or live Life's black or white Black & white makes grey Shadows cant see shadows Hidden in plain sight So into the grey I ventured And so in the grey I found myself I am e- fate is p+ Life is = Botswan
