The Danger of Drinking

A beautiful vibrant woman you once were Now you live your life in an alcoholic blur Lying in a hospital bed your skin is turning yellow Your hubby is finding it hard to cope, he’s such a lovely fellow But your love is now for the bottle it makes me oh so sad Seeing such a promising life turn out now to be so bad People have tried to help you but you need to help yourself Kick this horrid lifestyle bring your business back to wealth For that too is now crumbling it’s such a wasted life I want to see you back to that once amazing wife People are powerless to help you unless you can just say ‘I am an alcoholic help to me live another way' 8th May 2014 Written about a dear friend who is currently in hospital I do hope she can beat this but until she admits she has a problem no one can help

I can help a little in cases like this, with my Heroic Offering prayer: "For Thy greater glory and consolation, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for Thy sake, to give good example, to practice self-denial, to make reparation to Thee for the sins of intemperance, and for the conversion of excessive drinkers, I will abstain for life from all intoxicating drinks." Amen. Jesus, I trust in You! (This is part of my "decision to turn my will and life over to the care of God as I understand Him." #3). :-)

Congratulations on your win with this sensitive but straightforward poem. Touched my heart. The suffering alcoholic is the sadest thing, can't live with it, can't live without it. Prayers for your friend.

Expanding one's self from poetry about us to poetry about other's is a longing for those to hear our experiences and 'wish' that they could or would take our advice... I have a quote, "Poets are the heroes of the literary world." (me! my quote).... PR

I so hope and pray so Ana. I would visit her in hospital when we see dad today but I don't think I can cope emotionally with how she is now just remember her as the amazing woman she was that's the sad reality she isn't the person I knew. Hugs Jan x

A very sad story of one who get addicted.. .It touches my heart so well, Jan.. :"O(( I'm also a victim of addiction... hence, it's not me but the partner I'm w/ right now.. Yeah, No one can help them until they told themselves they need such ...Until when, we wouldn't know.. all we can do is a prayer to let them surpass w/ the challenge... very well expressed thoughts... Thanks for sharing!! xoxoxo.. ^_^
