The Countryside Conductor

He perched himself upon his stage. He stretched himself up tall. The Countryside Conductor Fanned his wings and beckoned all To join him as he welcomed in A bright new sunny day, To bring cheer to any appreciative heart Who cared to listen on their way. He belted out his melody That lasted right to noon! The sweetest kind of symphony, The merriest of tunes. Other voices harmonised By whistle, croak and tweet. Of different meaning in the bird world, To humankind an aural treat! Somehow too, it makes impact For when we need a lift out of despair, We may find ourselves recalling The conductors tune that filled the air.

This is such a refreshing read. It's delightful, Natasha. It's one of those poems where the imagery is so expressive that you see it in your mind as if you're there. Thank for sharing.

Thanks Shane, unfortunately the calender is for photos only, however, when next year's theme comes out I might send one in and see what happens;)

I just looked it up. The Chiffchaff?! What a beautiful picture. I've never heard of that bird before. The poem comes together even more so after seeing the picture. Awesome work! They should add your poem to the calendar.

Thank you Shane :-D I tried to add a photo of a drawing I did of the bird but when I tested the link it kept saying there was an error. But the inspiration came from a photo in this year's BBC CountryFile Calendar. You can look it up on BBC website I think... Thank so much for your encouragement :-D all the best.
