I am a hoarder of antiquities,
offering longevity to ephemera.
Obsessed with an insatiable
urge for accumulation
I fill every available nook
stacking layer upon layer
of emotional possessions… a
treasure chest of memorabilia!
Then, in wistful, solitary
moments of isolation,
I shall seek their reassurance.
Memories: a lifeline to sanity.

Thank you, John. It is so hard to keep up with all the poems that are posted on a daily basis...a pity, really, because many 'go to waste'. I don't think anyone should be allowed more than 1 or 2 poems a day. Regards // paul

Some items have such precious memories that we don't dare throw them away, Paul. (I cling to my father's old typewriter because I can still picture him using it every night.) What a beautiful poem. Congratulations of having the POTD! Love, Carolyn (Surely a winner in the contest and a fave for me.)

I can certainly relate Paul. When my daughter tells me I have too many knickknacks and other items laying around I tell her 'everything has a story' and I remember how I came to have each item, rather a gift or a find and I do find comfort looking at them. I really enjoyed your entry Paul and I hope Craig will too! Congratulations on having it deservingly honored with POTD! xxoo

There is a difference between holding onto memories, and collecting everything in sight. I treasure certain things, of course. Clutter isn't a healthy way of living. Just my simple thinking. Congratulations Paul, on Poem of the Day. :) Brandy

Your thinking might be 'simple' as you put it, Brandy, but it makes a lot of sense :) Collecting memories while avoiding clutter in the process is wise. Thank you for your input and congrats. Regards // paul

The last two lines enthrone the wealth of your message.. your wise words.. weathering time and life complexities.. waging fights.. gaining.. losing.. there's something precious added to "emotional possessions".. a treasure saved between the layers of the soul.. a huge wealth building a fortified Self that would "reassure a lifeline to sanity".. A collector of wisdom and everything beautiful and of value in life, You are, Paul! A wonderful work worthy of the honour.. Congratulations on your POTD.
