The City

My prison is a chain link fence Beneath the neon lights The sky bleeds blood orange And dogs bark at metallic monsters Crossing over the dirty bridge Watching a dead bum float in the river Next to a fornicating couple Drowning in vodka and cocaine Find release in the dingy clubs Where drug dealers sell math books And schools deal in fentanyl For princes and prima donnas Escape all of that to die by gunshot By gang warfare or school shooters The city's a haven for the callous and craven And that's all before the sun rises

Desensitization. A callused perspective. It has almost become the norm captured in your poem.

Some nice wordplay and mind twisting metaphor here Christopher. Sadly too much of what you so eloquently write is so common it barely turns heads.
