The Car I Remember Best
The Car I Remember Best
By Elton Camp
Over the years, many cars have come and gone
The one I recall with most detail I didn’t own
I thought it was the most beautiful I’d ever seen
But that way back when I was just age fifteen
It was our family car that all of had to share
Back then, more than one car was very rare
Father went to town alone to make a selection
A clunky, striped-down sedan was my expectation
I was taken aback when he turned into our drive
For he came in driving a Buick Special, 1955
When I saw the three-tone, hardtop sexy coupe
I blinked my eyes, looked again, & gave a whoop
I thought it was the most beautiful I’d ever seen
White top, white bottom and the middle green
Finally, after seven years of use had gone by
It was traded on a newer one, but with a sigh
Occasionally, about the Buick I will dream
Better than it really was, it will always seem
