The California Poppy

Orange glowing in a field of green Or along a mountain side. Silky petals reach toward the sun And dance in the spring breeze. At night they cup their faces Conserving strength for tomorrow.

This is a beautiful use of the nature metaphor, The language is simple and, as such, unpretentious. I love the way that the five lines lead so well into the sixth, creating a fantastic piece of imagery.
