The Butterfly of Death
Oh butterfly, so beautiful, when you’re on the wing
Who could imagine you could give Death’s sting?
As you flit among the flowers on your dazzling flight
No one would guess you could turn life’s light into night.
Yet your lovely wings put my child to death.
They suffocated her, they took away her breath.
You never meant it, but it happened all the same
It was not your fault; Chance was to blame.
My little girl and you, both suffered deathly fate
When you flew into her mouth, and killed her by mistake.
If I go into a garden, and see a butterfly
My eyes are filled with pain, and I begin to cry.
Although you’re truly beautiful, my anguish starts to stir,
For every time I see you, I grieve for her
