The Bottle
They call what I have a disease. There are only a couple doors open for me,
Jails, institutions, and death hold those keys.
So many nights I wondered how I still lived among the living;
As I continued to drown myself in the obscurity of alcoholism.
I'm just not the man I once was.
Took away my life is what the bottle does.
They say misery loves company, I guess that's why I pushed my ails
on my family and so many.
Why do my children avert their eyes when I'm near?
Is it the smell of alcohol on my breath they fear?
I feel I'm loosing those precious memories I hold dear.
Self pity gives me enough excuse to reach for another beer.
How could I possibly be what my babies need in a role model?
When I find strength and confidence in the bottle.
I thought I covered my tracks and hid the alcohol well, but stumbled and fell.
I'm deteriating inside, loosing my mind in this private hell.
I need a miracle to undo this hell of a spell.
Now days a sip of drink cuts like a thousand knives.
The pain so emotionally intense, equiviolent to loosing both of my wives.
A thought of living sober, breaks me out in hives.
So in the bottle I'll continue to deny and keep telling lies!

And for one of the greatest poets ever - "Edgar Allen Poe"
