“This is what I believe: That I am I. That my soul is a dark forest. That my known self will never be more than a little clearing in the forest. That gods, strange gods, come forth from the forest into the clearing of my known self, and then go back. That I must have the courage to let them come and go. That I will never let mankind put anything over me, but that I will try always to recognize and submit to the gods in me and the gods in other men and women. There is my creed.” (D.H. Lawrence)
"The Beginning of Memory"
Wouldst thou reconcile thy fate with the turn of a card? Sweet child doest thou tempt all the Gods to "Lost Woods", beckon to thee the Three Moirae, to question perchance your dreams spin them gold thread from reel? Or to romance Court Jesters, leading them freedom fluttering **** to the Wind, a kiss to be sealed? What beckoned you here in the first instance, a whim of the heart? Or perchance to hunt for an intriguing tonic to tear it apart? Wouldst thou be seeking the words for a book carried by other Blue Crying Larks? Twouldst seem, thou art consumed by overpowering memories of some wretched cursed pox of a dream from thy past. But time is bleeding into days waning fast, life’s to be seized to be blunt Plundering, efflorescence for Kings to pin them with blessed Purple Hearts Consorting with legions of temporal angels to tarry and gander a golden egg pass Perhaps it is best to seek guidance from Shakesperian Masters at last How would I compare a love joy kind of Sonnet to better unfurl their Venetian masks, to a frolicking Midsummer feast in the dark woods e’er to be lost in the maze? Is this pure folly or reckless courage ablaze? "Tut-tut" from the pulpit, "today’s not the day…" Sigh,“So long as men can breathe and eyes can see, long live this and this gives life to thee” So tarry not too long here my Palimpsest Dreamer My embrocation to you, Deus Ex Machina

as someone who writes more sonnets than most poets on this site I would recommend fooling around with them, but that is not where your poetic soul is, you need the freedom to express beyond the rules, and sonnets have rules, many which I bend often..." I find no peace and have no arms for war " that is the music of a sonnet...I think you would find them constricting...I might be wrong...check out a few of mine

Believe me, I'm one of the biggest nerds out there. :) You are no nerd Drake, you have stories in you that need to get out, keep writing. Maybe through Deus Ex Machina, you'll find the story that will take you to the next part in your chapter's journey. Thank you for the kind compliment.

Yes it is indeed difficult to read so many poets work. Thanks for reading my “I’m Different” poem.

lol, I did't really think Charlie, this one would garner any comments, apart from...."what on earth was she thinking!" Thank you for your kind comment.

Love the line unfurl their Venetian masks. Wonderful write. **A tip for centering, since there is some sort of bug in the program, if you start six lines down it comes out perfect.

Yes, I thought the Venetian masks was perfectly placed...and thank you so much for that tip - I like things to look perfect (sometimes) and that blastered centering was really giving me the pips. So will follow your suggestion. Thank you for your kind comment. Will venture into your woods to have a peak at your stories!

Stay tuned. lol...honestly, this was a hoot to do. It was propositioned to me, "why not try a sonnet?" - I couldn't follow the rules. Will have to try again sometime this week, as I would like to give it a shot. Thank you James.

Great use of the Olde English, I was writing a poem about a court jester who was always intoxicated lol... This poem made me smile.. interesting last three words... God of the machine... You do have a great way with words... Its always best to write free, as you do.. A sonnet is full of restrictions and Shaky has long gone and left us...

I've changed the words around some since you've read it, probably. Dues ex Machina does mean God of the Machine or Ghost of the Machine, but in publishing it means: "an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel". It was fun writing this poem, lol. I had started off to try and write a dignified sonnet. Will give it another go.

Alternative title: "This is Not a Sonnet"... Deus ex Machina - Definition: noun. (in ancient Greek and Roman drama) a god introduced into a play to resolve the entanglements of the plot. 2. any artificial or improbable device resolving the difficulties of a plot.
