The Bears

They'll find food at dump. Place where people throw garbage. Bears don't go hungry.

So true. Bears feast off what we waste! Sadly I have seen people dumpster dive as I drove by in my car. It was an older Asian married couple. I’m not sure if they were hungry homeless or just thrifty. I like your poem a classic haiku.

I can't trust food found in a dumpster. I have grabbed a few things, like books, but only with an o.k. from the business. Thank you for liking my haiku.

At least the bears get to reduce waste and survive. Bears frequenting the dump creates a hazard for people, though. A lovely haiku, Hilda. Blessings.

Thank you for reading my haiku. Bears can be dangerous. I'd just stay away from them.

I would ask all to put leftovers in so container a bit far from Habitation. Otherwise a clever haiku.

Gosh, dear Hilda, this is such a thoughtful and insightful haiku, as always. Your words compel us to dive deep and reflect in an introspective way.. Things which we certainly waste or take for granted can prove to be a treasure for others.. You've conveyed so much within just few syllables! Also, bears here portray as the one, who knows the art of surviving.. Very witty and beautifully crafted. There are so many evocative layers here. Brilliant! Sending many best wishes and light to you :)

Yes, they are. I like the black bears that are less aggressive.

Hilda, your Haiku is truly brilliant, capturing the essence of a fundamental human instinct: the relentless pursuit of sustenance and hydration through any means available.

Scavenging is a very interesting activity. I occasionally see old furniture set out for collection and strip off the hardware if it looks interesting. There is a lot of food for thought in the Haiku above!

I had one time of maybe 3 days when I scavenged for food. I discovered that there are more edible plants that look like weeds than most people think. It worked out. I wanted to pay my mortgage first before I worried about eating. Thank you for reading.

A brilliant Haiku, Hilda. One of life's most basic instincts...to get food and water wherever they can.

We waste so much...not that a meal for a bear is not appreciated by the critter, but we could do better conserving and sharing outright our blessings. Interesting write. Make me think.

Thank you for your comment.. I've heard of bears going to a dump, with one bear accompanied by a dog. Bears are a little lazy, also.

so accurate...bears know how to survive...a pleasant read. Have a lovely evening, Sara

Thank you again. A generation of children that had stuffed teddy bears has convinced us that bears are cuddly.

When one is hungry one would eat anything. To be expected.

This is true. Some Sci fi TV says that planes crashed in Alaska and the pilot disappeared. Of course, he didn't.

Dear Hilda, this is so deep as always, your haiku too speaks volumes and gets readers to ponder deeply: and this one here too did exactly that. Bears, find ways while the rest of the world do not appreciate or value what they have, they still find ways to get food and survive. I can interpret this in so many different soul levels: pleasure reading your work always. Sending you light

- Not good for bears to go to the dump to eat ... they should have enough food in the forest (which we humans cut down ) ... sad to think about, Hilda - hugs

That sounds about right. The cost of environmental destruction is barely captured in the accountant spreadsheets since the people doing the damage are not generally the ones paying for it.

Lots of food is still good. The ability of the forest to grow food has changed. It should be full of berries and other things, including worms, which bears eat. It's getting too dry.
