His black shadow forever in elongation- Still thrills the fans to adoration! Yet with power to enthrall, He walks the vacant hall. The road cuts sharply to the west- But, the music already has progressed. In the sunset days, we feel warm rays; His memory's alive when the music plays! Spans two dimensions-the future-the past; Hardly it seems an age has passed. Rapidly was breathed the word "Legend." At times legend's without end. But, how wild it all seemed- When the women fainted and the girls screamed! Yeah, shook up is what we were... When he set the world astir. His life was brief, intense. His shadow is immense. And despite the date of the calendar, Can't dream it's over...

I enjoyed his films and thought he could act too. King Creole was one example. He also did a western called Charro. Your poem was excellent, not too over the top. Told it like it was. You chose your words to best effect. Best regards Davide in NZ

Somehow seems a long, long time ago to me. Here's a bit of nostalgia for you. 1957, South Side of Chicago, walking to a Chicago White Sox game with my dad from where we parked. Saw a sign on a nightclub: 'The King is coming!' Who's that? I asked my dad. Why, that's the great Nat King Cole, son!... Elvis was an afterthought after that for me... Happy Thursday evening! :) Gershon

You are a poetess with a golden pen Evelyn! You have expressed so eloquently youthful memories of a great talent whose charisma outshined the sun. My mother met him when he was sixteen. She said he was shy and polite calling her ma'am. I met his wife Priscilla on a flight many years later, who was also quiet and shy. I absolutely loved this wonderful poem I am faving! xxoo

Thank you for your wonderfully kind words, Connie. I am so happy to have written something that struck a chord with you. The delightful stories that you tell of Elvis and his wife, Priscilla, fit with what I've read and heard of them. By all accounts, they were very nice people. And I know all about calling people sir and ma'am. It's an old custom that comes from the south. I'm so honored to be in your faves! xxoo
