The Advocate

he fiercely champions animal rights,
   and weeps over newts, snakes stuck
      dead in black oil slicks, gruesome sights;

      at night he agonizes over the dismal fate
         of some endangered non-human species
            for whose protection he's a rabid advocate;

but back in his bomber's cockpit he's cool,
   wryly unleashing death missiles on cities,
      on his face the smug smirk, grin of a fool;

      he can calmly kill an entire population
         for a war mission without compassion,
            but wails hysterical over a tiger's extinction!
