The Absentee Fathers - I Cry For the Children
The Absentee Fathers
(I cry for the children)
You disc your children
As though you don’t care.
You cry you love them- But
don’t give them the time of day.
Your children look to other men
For what you refuse to give
They search for feelings
You obviously can never feel.
They long to take your hand
And walk by your side.
To have long talks that only a father and child
Can share- but you are never there.
They’ve missed those precious
Moments
That only you both can experience
To point you out in a crowd, and say, “That’s my dad,”
You deny them even that.
I cry – knowing that they go to bed at night-
With thoughts of you on their minds.
And as they turn their tear-stained faces toward the wall.
I cry for them-
When in their dreams they see you holding them in your arms
Being the dad, they want and need.
As you beam and smile that proud-to-be-a-dad smile-
But of course, that is only a dream-
Because you choose to be an absentee father!
