Notes About The Poem

Purple Peacock (3) Mediums by Anaya

That I Am

A peacock's demeanor reflects its heraldic crest
the avian's plumage dazzles with its presence
fanned out tail of blue green metallic manifests
appearing prideful, vainglorious in iridescence
veiled is its vulnerability and its fragile heart
We immerse ourselves in its beauty and grace
an aspiring and soulful sanguine work of art
until bittersweet's tinge, shows its harsh face
gone the saffron sweetness that of happiness
losing self in vanities futility caught in tangles
ocelli ring patterns tips of eyes it apprehends
illusions of melanin waves and keratin angles

Living walls of purple flora vined creeping plants
beware its bright red-orange berries, poisonous
superficial self-seeker, servile are the sycophants
skulk about corridors, spreading judgment upon us
decking privacy, holding the mulch of innuendos,
dim skyscapes of golden sunrises, of ruby sunsets
Our inner light casts truth from the irises’ windows
how much more must I cry out like suffragettes?

No longer do I dwell among sloth losing my identity
like the peacock that flutters and spreads its charm
I embrace no longer useless supercilious mentality
the vanity of human wishes, grandiose that its harm
The rhythm of my heart’s vibrant vignettes heard
That I Am, alongside the greatest of them all
those of you curious who cling onto my every word
He who stands beside our Creator, shall not fall

Ahhh such a creative and beautiful way to get across your poem's message. I have seen so many good entries in this contest, I don't understand why he raised the number of entries. This could sure be a 🕊️ winner

I'm in awe at how commandingly you were able to 'encapsulate' the vanity, haughtiness, and ultimate crush of reality faced by all humanity, in your masterful metaphor. Spread your wings and fly, even though peacocks can't fly! 101. Anaya, an exquisite and flamboyant watercolor! p.s. Thank you for bringing Michael Tor's passing to my attention, most disheartening news. Robert

This is a beautifully reflective piece that uses the striking metaphor of the peacock’s iridescent plumage to explore the delicate balance between vanity, vulnerability, and true identity. The content masterfully contrasts superficial beauty with deep spiritual resonance, perfectly capturing the essence of the opening quote by anchoring the speaker's strength in the divine "I Am." Formally, your thoughtful rhyme scheme and rich, vibrant imagery—such as the "living walls of purple flora"—create a rhythmic, regal pacing that elegantly supports the grandeur of your message.❤️
