That A-Lone Tree

Do you see that tree up on the hill empty of friends as far as the eye can see? No green bushy trees surround it just buckwheat and bugs Do you think it’s lonely or just happy with itself growing tall forevermore? It’s growing so tall your eye is can see it for miles away No pain is dragging it down It’s been hit by lightning quite a few times over the years The burn marks profound but its strength never fails It carried on despite its injuries Little flowers grow at its base They make me smile. I’ve been coming here for years dropping my emotions and negativity, but it has always stayed strong for me No matter what I say or yell or cry in sadness, in anger, in envy This tree, this source of support has brought me safety through that crazy hurricane and the beautiful fake sunny days when I worry I’ll get sunburnt This lone tree has always been there for me When the other trees withered and died throughout my childhood, You stayed with me. When the apple tree’s seeds flew far away, You stayed with me. When these gorgeous and life-saving trees were cut down so brutally, You stayed with me. No one could fell you, They tried, eventually tiring, but sometimes I still see them trying in the midnight hours, the early dawn when the dew covers the ground, but they failed to hurt you, Failed to hurt you. Failed to hurt you. They failed to hurt me.
